The Articles of Confederation During the Revolutionary period, the United States and Britain had many conflicts. Between 1763-1776, there were issues among these two countries. Between 1780-1789, there were issues about the federal government and the states under the Articles of Confederation. Two of these issues happened to be the foreign affairs between Britain and the United States, and the economy of the federal government. Subsequently following the French and Indian War, which happened to be where the British fought for the American colonies, Britain was in great need to pay its debts. Holding the war against the colonies, Britain decided to tax the colonies to pay for their large debt. Not being treated as members of the British Empire, the colonists were angered at the thought of being a source for Britain?s revenue. Acting in protest to what the colonies considered to be unjust laws, the colonists resisted attempts to be taxed, claiming as long as they weren?t allowed fair representation in the English Parliament, they would not pay. In 1650, a series of laws called the Navigation Acts were issued for the American colonies; although they did not come into full effect until after the French and Indian War. These laws prohibited the trade of certain items, which made it difficult for merchants who relied on French, Spanish, and other foreign countries for business. These restrictions angered the merchants, seeing as they were not allowed to make specific products in the colonies any longer, Heavy tariffs made trade nearly impossible and led the colonists to believe Britain was purposely doing this to hurt the economy of the colonists. England enacted laws to create trouble with trade between the colonies and other countries. In 1764, the Sugar Act was issued; this law taxed sugar, textiles, and other goods. One year following this the Stamp Act was put into effect, taxing all legal documents, newspapers, and playing cards. Shortly after, the Townshend Acts came into place, taxing lead, glass, iron, and manufactured goods within the colonies. The colonists became infuriated at these new laws stating they were too heavy and were levied without their direct consent. Britain thought it only necessary to place troops in America for the safety and protection of their colonies. They thought since they were doing such a great favor for the colonies, that it was only fair, and that the colonists would not mind providing the supplies needed to tend and care for the troops sent there.

The basic difference between them is that people with little money are not able to satisfy their needs and people with too much money are able to satisfy both of their wants and needs. People with too little money lack basic needs such as proper food, shelter, toilets etc. This is because they do not have sufficient revenue to afford them.They struggle everyday to earn money so that by the end of the day, they are tallest able to eat In order to survive. It's an international issue and there are more poor people than the rich. This is because the resources to consume humans basic needs are scarce. Therefore, lesser people get the opportunity to use them. Every child deserves to enjoy their life and gain knowledge when they are kids. However, as poor people have too little money to afford entertainment and education for their kids, their kids end up being depressed a nd illiterate in future.Consequently, the chance for the poor people to become rich In future decreases. People with too little money do not have freedom. They do have their own choice that when, how and how long to work. For example, if a man is currently at his friend's wedding and he suddenly gets a phone call saying that he urgently needs to go back to work. The man will have no choice but to go back to work and this type of problem Is one of the most common issues for a poor man. Moreover, people with less money spend most of their life in stress as they are always worried whether then get enough money to survive or not.There Is a common saying that having too much money causes a man to go under erasure and stress as he has a lot of workload. Thus, they go under the state of depression. However this is not factual. Rich men do have a lot of mental pressure and strain but they can easily get rid of it. As they have too much money, they can easily afford weekend parties; spend mo ney In casino, smoke weed and drink to get rid of stress. If a man has too much money, he definitely has too much presage as people admire him for opting a lot of effort to reach at this position. Money is powerful for getting people to do a job.If you want to paint your car, you cannot force painter to do it. However, you can offer him a good amount of money to paint It for you. Therefore money Is power. There Is more chance of rich men's son to succeed than the poor. This is because the rich man has plenty of money to afford the best 1 OFF prospects for the rich man to get richer. To conclude, it's very hard to survive with too less money. And the government needs to end taxes on poor people and support them with their finance. So as a result in future, poor might be able to gradually get richer and will be able to fulfill their demands.

The merit principle is the idea that hiring should be based on entrance exams and promotion ratings to reward qualified individuals to produce an administration of skilled and talented people. All civil servant applicants must pass an exam that measures skills related to the particular civil service position they hope to fill. Some civil service exams are general and apply to a wide range of jobs, whereas others are focused on a particular type of job. I do not see how a â€Å"merit exam† can truly show how successful a potential civil servant would be performing in a particular position. An exam may be able to measure the extent of their paper knowledge on the position, but does not reflect how well a civil servant would be able to apply their knowledge to their job. Robert Jensens Patriotism Essay Many people believe that they are patriotic people. But, what truly makes one patriotic? In Saying Goodbye to Patriotism Robert Jensen critiques the effects of patriotism on todays modern society, the United States, and globalization after the attacks on 9/11. Jensen defines patriotism in his talk delivered to the Peace Action National Congress as love and loyal or zealous support of ones own country. (Jensen 741) But, that is not the only definition of patriotism. One may love living in the United States so does that make them patriotic? Patriotism is probably one of the hardest words to define in todays society. Jensen presents two alternative definitions of patriotism in his speech. The first one suggests that patriotism is to defend our country because it was attacked, and that must mean that there is a need to defend the United States and the citizens of the United States must support. Perhaps, this definition is the one that George W. Bush had been taught. In his speech he states, we are a country awakened to danger and called to defend freedom. Our grief has turned to anger and anger into resolution. Whether we bring our enemies to justice, or justice to our enemies, justice will be done. Just nine days after the attacks on 9/11 and already a plan to fight back was being constructed. In Fahrenheit 9/11, Lila Lipscomb supported this definition of patriotism, but that was before her son was killed in action. Patriotism was probably the last thing on her mind as she grieved the death of her son. Perhaps she has a different outlook on patriotism after her experience. Perhaps a lot of people who lost a loved one during a war that they are not sure what they are fighting for. The other definition as given by Jensen speaks of the following: exercising our judgment, evaluating policies, engaging in discussion, and organizing to try to help see that the best policies are enacted. But how many people can actually say that they practice those activities on a daily basis? Politicians probably will tell you that they do, but not even members of congress read the bills that they vote on as seen in Fahrenheit 9/11. To quote John Conyers, Sit down, my son. We dont read most of the bills. These are the exact words from the congressman on how they were going to pass the Patriot Act without reading it. If our leaders dont have the right idea of patriotism then how are the citizens in which are run under them supposed to get the right message about patriotism? If the leaders of the country just keep creating policies and the majority of the citizens just accept them as they are, then this country really isnt that big of a democracy as one may think it is. In Jensens talk, he also gives a quote of Emma Goldmans that states, Patriotism assumes that our globe is divided into little spots, each one surrounded by an iron gate. Those who had the fortune of being born on some particular spot, consider themselves better, nobler, grander, and more intelligent than the living beings inhabiting any other spot. It is, therefore, the duty of everyone living on that chosen spot to fight, kill, and die in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all others. This sounds a lot more like what patriotism is today. War is something that has always existed and even in this modern day in age, it is still considered the best way to resolve conflict.
